'Cairo Jim and Doris in Search of Martenarten' - a review by Claire

“Cairo Jim and Doris in Search of Martenarten” by Geoffrey Mc Skimming

WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT:

This book is a wonderful tale of Archaeology, Adventure and Astonishment. Set in Egypt in the Valley of the Kings Cairo Jim, Doris the Macaw and Brenda the Wonder Camel are in search of the famous Egyptian Pharaoh Martenarten. They face many dangers including Captain Neptune Bone and his flea-ridden raven Desdemona and the Ramphansite twins (Abdullah and Kelvin) who sell fake scarabs and take a real part in the story. But he also has friends like Miss Amun-Ra who gives Jim and Doris shergold cakes every Sunday before their weekly swim in the Nile. Miss Jocelyn Osgood is also a very close friend and Miss Pyrella Frith who is a photographer. This story is mostly set in the Valley of the Kings (a real place). When Cairo Jim is digging he keeps finding odd pictures of famous people in the place where he is digging. Could there be some kind of message in it?

Someone blows their diggings up and the tunnel that they are digging in gets filled up with the diggings that got blown up. A mummy comes to speak to them and Cairo Jim believes it, because he is superstitious. Doris almost gets her feathers pulled out and Brenda gets knocked out and gagged.. Cairo Jim almost gets his head blown off with a blunderbuss. They go to see something at the statue of the Memnon and they discover that it is only the Ramphansite twins playing a gramophone. Kelvin gets kicked really hard on the buttocks and Captain Neptune Bone’s gramophone breaks. Brenda is obsessed with books and likes playing Solitaire. Doris and Brenda also play card games together like Fish and Blackjack.

I rate this book 8 out of 10. I recommend this book for ages eleven to adult because I think they would enjoy it most.
