Configuring MS NetMeeting Once you have downloaded and installed the product, launch it The first time you start it, you will be asked a range of typical installation questions. Accept the defaults except one - Do you want to log on to an ILS when NetMeeting starts? - answer No. You will be asked to use the Tuning Wizard to set the audio levels. Grab your microphone, plug it in and hold it in the manner you will use it when you are talking over the Internet (I clip mine to my shirt). Click the Start Recording button and chat for a minute constantly in the voice you will use when talking on the Net. Dont worry too much about it as you can use it again later if things arent right. Having installed the product you will wonder what the hell is going on once you launch it. The default settings are such that it is assumed that you are online, want to log to an ILS and that you want the ILS directory list to be refreshed. ("What is an ILS?" you ask...all is revealed on the ILS page listed above.) Clicking the STOP button on the toolbar doesnt stop all of the actions that are taking place. Basically, you will have to wait until it all just stops. When everything has stopped, then you can turn these default settings off. Click on TOOLS on the toolbar and then choose OPTIONS. Choose the Calling tab. The settings that I have set are indicated in image below. Notice that the Server Name is set to www.ash.org.au. We have set up an ILS at the Aussie SchoolHouse. There are very few ILS servers outside the USA. We have set this ILS up on the Aussie SchoolHouse server so that it can be used by the educational community. Use this server to start with. The role of an ILS is discussed on the ILS page listed on the menu at the top of the page. |
