Connecting to other
MS NetMeeting users There are two methods that will be discussed here - the clean and messy method and the messy and clean method. The Clean and Messy Method The clean way of connecting to other people is to log onto an ILS - Internet Locator Service. A server on the Internet will be running an ILS. It is a bit of software that Microsoft allows server administrators to download from the NetMeeting Site and install on their servers. All that it does is list your information in a directory list (the information that you enter in the Tools, Option, Information section) and buries your current IP address have behind it. All someone had to do to get you is then double click on your entry and a request for connection will be sent to you. It is then up to you to Accept or Ignore the request for a meeting. You can configure NetMeeting to use the Aussie SchoolHouse ILS for your professional meetings. The reason that I have said that it is messy is that my experience is that the audio connection tends to be the unreliable. All of the lousy audio links that I have had have been when I have been connected to someone via an ILS. Mind you, I have had some good connections this way also. It is just that there has been a level of unreliability about the connection. The
Messy and Clean Method You can get your IP address by:
You IP address will be displayed. Contact the person by phone or email and tell them your current IP address. It's clean because I have found the best audio exchange has been when I have been connected directly to another person using this method. |
