What is MS NetMeeting?
MS Netmeeting is a conferencing package developed by Microsoft and distributed freely from their web site and promotional CDs.  As of the time of writing, the final release of version 2 is available from the Microsoft web site.

Like all conferencing software, MS NetMeeting has the following features:

  • text chat
  • file transfer
  • shared whiteboard
  • audio and video (switchable one-to one)

There is additional feature that NetMeeting has - the ability to share an application.  This means that I can start a software package on my machine and the click Share from the toolbar and everyone connected to me in MS NetMeeting can see the application on their screens even though it is running on my computer.  NetMeeting allows you to go one step further - let a remote user take control of the application.  By click on Collaborate on the toolbar, I can make the application running on my machine available to a remote user to take control.  The application is running on my machine but you can use it to create, edit, open, save etc a document on my machine.
