Learning
At OLGC we believe that learning should be meaningful, challenging, well supported and fun! The school curriculum is organised to ensure each child experiences a well balanced education which is compliant with NSW Board of Studies requirements and inclusive of our view that education is for the whole child – spiritual, academic, physical (spirit, mind, body). Our Catholic beliefs are embedded in our curriculum.
OLGC closely monitors each child’s progress prior to enrolment through to Year Six. We use a variety of assessment strategies in each class throughout the year. National Testing at Kindergarten, Years Three and Five is a part of this process.
Teachers are required to organise learning so that each child is guided to meet curriculum requirements, be extended beyond them or supported to achieve them. Children working beyond their expected level have access to a range of extension strategies and programs including full or partial acceleration, the Peninsula Community of Schools Program; participation in specific programs or extension work within the current focus of study. Children needing support to achieve expected learning outcomes also have access to a range of strategies including modification to the curriculum, referral to the learning support team or referral to our on site speech pathologist or occupational therapist.
