School history

During the late 1950’s and throughout the 1960’s our founding parents and parishioners were so determined to establish a Catholic presence in the Forest area, that they actually built our school and the Church themselves under the guidance of the then Parish Priest, Father Clement Gailey. Cardinal Gilroy opened Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School Forestville in 1962 with the Brigidine Sisters as its first teachers.

Education has changed since 1962, especially with the introduction of technology; student centred learning and welcome financial support from state and commonwealth governments. So, in 2006 we began to write another chapter in our Catholic story. With the support of the Diocesan Development Fund, the Catholic Schools Office, Broken Bay, our Parish Priest, Father David Taylor and the community, the original school was demolished to make way for modern, new facilities. Our new school was officially blessed and opened by Bishop David Walker in October 2007.

In April 2008, we welcomed Father Michael O’Toole as our new Parish Priest Our Parish was also expanded to in include the St Anthony in the Fields community at Terrey Hills. With a new school, a new leader and a newer, larger Parish community we look forward to an exciting future.
