Sport and Physical Education

The children at OLGC are offered a variety of sports. Each class has two hours of physical activity per week which includes sport and physical education.

Kindergarten to Year Two children (K-2) play sport at school. The focus of their activity is on the development of a set of fundamental sports skills which equip them to play formal sports. K-2 children take part in skills sessions and modified events in the sports of cross country and athletics. Children aged eight and above can participate in the swimming carnival.

Children in Years Three to Six participate in a variety of sports which provide the children an opportunity to experience a mix sports. Their program includes six sessions of soccer skills culminating in the Robbie Slater Cup in term one. In term two they participate a series of skills sessions in Australian football, eagle tag, rugby league or netball culminating in a gala day during which the children play against other Catholic schools. Term three sport is either martial arts or tennis and term four will focus on dance.

OLGC runs a swimming carnival, a cross country trial event and an athletics carnival. Children are organized into colour houses and these houses compete at these events.

Children have opportunity to represent their school, cluster, diocese, state or country at a range of sports through the Peninsula Catholic Schools Sports Association or the Broken Bay Sports Council. The Sports Council is affiliated with the Combined Catholic School Sports Association and the Primary School Sports Association (PSSA).

Active After School Sport
The school has received a grant from the Commonwealth Government to run Active After School Sport (AASS) in addition to the school PE and Sport programs. AASS runs twice per week for an hour after school and is open to children enrolled at OLGC. Two different sports are offered each term – these may vary. No skill level is expected. Sessions are focused on high energy activities. Activities are free but bookings are essential to secure a place. These can be made through the school office. Conditions apply.
