OLGC is a member of the Peninsula Catholic Community of
Schools. The group is composed of Catholic systemic
primary and high schools. A range of initiatives is
being implemented to benefit the students and families
who are part of the group. Initiatives include:
Faith Community
Last year the network combined to provide welcome and hospitality to pilgrims visiting Sydney for World Youth Day. Our Year Six Cluster Mass is an annual celebration involving the community of schools. School leaders from each school meet on a regular basis to plan and develop the concept of Catholic Community.
Gifted and Talented Project
Identified children from Kindergarten to Year 4 participate in the ‘Come On Kids’ project. This is an online in school program culminating in the presentation of research and understandings to the teacher and a broader group. Work is assessed and included in reports. In 2010 we have created a partnership with Taronga Zoo and will use zoo visits to learn about Maths in a new program called Zoomatics.
Identified children in Years 5 and 6 from each of the community schools meet at St Rose Collaroy for a series of specialist teaching sessions to assist them in the completion of the Maths Challenge Project.
Children identified as gifted in Years 5 and 6 from the community of schools have the opportunity of attending a series of lessons at St Paul’s College Manly to work on Stage Four (Year Seven and Eight) work.
