My duties as coordinator of the Technology Focus project in our school are many and varied. This is very much a year of planning, observing, discussion and reflection.
To ensure that the outcomes we aspire to are achieved, it is vital to spend a great deal of time in this planning stage. Information Technology in schools is still in it's infancy and hence there are few clear models to guide schools along this path.
We have planned this year to immerse the staff in the new technologies, to develop both confidence and skills. A large part of my role this year is to facilitate this training, in one to one and group situations. To enable staff to further develop their skills, we have leased laptop computers and internet accounts to enable them to practise their skills at home.
Our school is currently undergoing a building upgrade, and part of that upgrade includes laying fibre optic cabling throughout the school which will enable us to establish a school wide network, with internet access in all teaching areas.
