North Parmelia Primary has been
selected as one of fifteen Technology Focus Schools in Western Australia.
The Technology Focus Project will run for three years, 1997 - 1999.
The purpose of the Technology Focus
Schools project is to enable schools to:
- participate in effective Information
Technology planning,
- realise the potential of I T
to enhance teaching and learning,
- develop skills in using I T,
- and to use I T in the context
of teaching and learning across the curriculum.
We are very aware that for
the successful integration of technology into all aspects of the learning
environment, staff and students together will become learners, facilitators
and coaches. Our Technology Plan and Vision reflect this awareness and
hence cater for the needs of both staff and students.

I T Team
An Information Technology Committee
has been formed to formulate, coordinate and implement the I T plan.
This committee consists of:

Professional
Development
1997 heralds the beginning of
change in our school - changes which will see our students have access
to vast amounts of information in their classrooms, the opportunity to
communicate quickly and easily with other students around the country and
the world, and technology which both challenges and extends them.
These changes will nessesitate
a different approach to teaching and learning, and we have a strong committment
to professional development of staff to enable all staff to develop the
skills to effectively and confidently meet the challenges ahead.
PD initiatives include:
- provide workshops (e-mail, Internet,
Microfusion, multimedia, new software etc)
- conference attendance
- networking, collaboration and
skill development
- sponsorship for teachers to
observe best practise
- join professional associations
- ECAWA etc.
- provision of, and training on,
laptop computers

Hardware
Considerations
As part of our current school
upgrade, an optic fibre backbone has been laid throughout the school. This
will enable an Intranet to be established which will link the administration
block with the resource centre and the three teaching blocks.
Hardware Acquisition Plan for
1997
- Lease eight multimedia computers
for teacher use
- Lease ten multimedia desktop
computers for classroom use
- Purchase flat bed scanner
- Purchase laser printer
- Purchase computer projection
equipment
- Maintain existing lease on PC's
and Microfusion system
Current hardware (as at August
1997) includes:
- lab containing fifteen pentium
computers, scanner and networked laser printer
- multimedia computers in each
classroom
- eight laptop computers with
modems and internet accounts for teacher use
- administration intranet
- fully automated library
- digital camera
- multimedia computer in the library
for student use
All new computers are leased
for a period of four years. The decision was made to lease to ensure that
our equipment remains current. Most peripheral equipment (printers, scanner,
digital camera etc) have been purchased.

Official
Web Site Launch
On Thursday November 6th we were
honoured to have our web site officially launched by Lane Clark, an internationally
renowned speaker from River Oaks School in Canada. This web site is still
being developed, and provides an important global audience for the children
and teachers at our school.

Goals
for 1998
- Provide regular scheduled and 'point
of need' training for all teaching and support staff.
- Extend network to the transportable
classrooms.
- Continue to expand and update the
school web site.
- Review finance plan to ensure continuity
of technology goals in future years.

in the implementation of technology into the classroom programs.

into the art/craft, music and LOTE programs.

Professional Development
North Parmelia staff have gained
considerable skills in the use of information technology during 1997. During
1998, staff will continue to develop their skills in software applications
and peripheral devices (digital camera, scanners), however the main emphasis
will focus on the integration of the technologies into the teaching and
learning program.
PD Initiatives include:
- Twice weekly after school training
sessions.
- Organised training sessions during
Wednesday early close.
- Level 3 teacher to provide classroom
support and 'on the spot' training.
Hardware
As of June 1998, the following our
school is equipped with the following hardware.
- Networked lab of 16 multi-media
PC's, scanner and laser printer, large screen TV and Averkey.
- Multimedia computers in each of
the 18 primary and 4 pre-primary classrooms, and the deputies office.
- Multimedia computers in the art
and music rooms.
- Five multimedia PC's, scanner and
laser printer in the library.
- Fully automated Microfusion library
system.
- P2000 network in the Administration
area.
- Eight laptop computers for staff
and student use.
- Networked computer in the staff
room.
- Two digital cameras.
- A number of colour printers around
the school for classroom use.
