Emu and Brolga were friends. They shared food together. One day they went out hunting. Emu didn't find any food. Brolga found lots of food. When Emu and Brolga got back, Emu waited a long time.

When Brolga finished the fish Emu didn't get any fish. So Emu threw a spear that went up Brolga's neck. Then Brolga threw a spear that cut off Emu's feathers.

Emu ran all the way to Arnhem Land and that's how he got long legs and lost his ability to fly.

Emu lived in a billabong but soon he died.

 This story tells how Emu and Brolga formed their shape.
