How the Moon became Gidja
| One
day a family was struggling for food because the boys ate the fish that
they caught and never shared it. Their father was making a net for the
boys. Then he had an idea.
When the two wife's went looking for berries he would tie the boys up and throw them in the sea. When the two wives went looking for berries he called the boys to test if it went around the boys. They said ok because it had to be big. He tied the boys up and threw them into the sea. When the wives got back they looked all over the place for them. They cried and cried. When the father was asleep they made a fire. |
They
got a piece of fiery bark and burned the house down with the father. He
ran out and was screaming help me help me but the two wives
just watched and yelled "You killed the boys we kill
you."
When the whole house was burned down the father was glowing from the shine of the embers. He twitched and disappeared and in his place was a round yellow ball. It flew into the air and said "I will be called Gidja which is the other name for the moon. Retold by James |
