Retold by Kristian and Frank

Once a long time ago there was a boy called Nudjanuka. One morning Nudjanuka asked his mother if he could go to the beach. His mother said, "yes, be back before dinner."

So Nudjanuka set off along with his bird friends. It was  a long way to the beach. Nudjanuka laughed and played. Soon they passed owls tree. Owl said, "Nudjanuka what are you doing so far from home? And anyway, it's getting dark."

Nudjanuka said, "I am young and I am fast," and he started running until he came to the beach. One of his bird friends chased a butterfly. He looked into the sky. The sun was going down.

He flew down to Nudjanuka and said the sun was going down. Nudjanuka said one last swim. Go back to owls house and wait. So the birds did that. When they got to owl's tree, owl asked where is Nudjanuka?

He said he was having one more swim the birds said. I will go back and tell his mother. His mother was shouting for Nudjanuka. Owl said Nudjanuka is still at the beach. Nudjanukas mother called a search party. She got Mr and Mrs Dingo, wombat and owl and they all searched. They all went back except Mr Dingo. He said Nudjanuka had been drowned. She started screaming and crying. Clouds covered her face and it started raining You can still hear Nudjanuka calling for his mother and his mother crying.
