Retold by Roma and Michael

Long ago when the earth was new a little boy named Nudjanuka woke up to a new day. He asked his mum, ''can I go swim with my friends?''

His mum replied, ''you can if you come back before the sun sets."

Nudjanuka replied, ''ok.''

Nudjanuka went off to the beach with his bird friends. Nudjanuka passed the wise old owl and the owl said, '' Nudjanuka where are you going so far away from home?

A little bird replied, "his mother said he can go to the beach if he was back by the time the sun sets".

By the time Nudganuka arrived at the beach the sun was already setting. One of the little birds flew up and looked at the sunset. The little bird warned Nudjanuka, "Nudjanuka," the little bird said, "the sun is setting.''

Nudjanuka said, '' Wait! I'm going to have one more swim." By the time Nudjanuka had his last swim the sun had already set. Nudjanuka tried to get out but he was stuck in the current. Nadjanuka's mum was very worried. Nadjanuka's mum asked owl to get Mr. Dingo, Mrs. Kangaroo and Mr. Wombat. They searched and searched but found nothing except for Mr. Dingo. Mr. Dingo said, ''Nudjanuka is in the sea and cannot get out. The current is pulling him." So Nadjanuka's mum cried and cried. So every time there is a rain you will hear Nadjanuka's mum crying for Nudjanuka to come back.
