Gardens

Pleasant Heights has some of the most lush gardens seen in any school. We have already won three awards for Best Gardens. They were in 1999,1984, and 1983. We are very proud of our garden achievements.

Some children from the older and younger classes are quite happy to give up their lunch playtime to help keep our gardens healthy and beautiful.

Every year our School Presidents have the privilege to plant a new plant into our lovely gardens.

In 1996, that year's Yr. 6 gave the school a bird bath as a present for their appreciation of  the school.

Our gardener is Mr. Eddie, but unfortunately he is on leave, so to take place for this short amount of time Mr. Swan will be our gardener.

Mr. Swan was very kind to give up his time to let us interview him. These are our questions and his answers!

Q. What do you think about our gardens?

A. I think we have beautiful gardens and that is why I love taking care of them.

Q. Do you think the school should invest more money into the gardens?

A. Even though our gardens are beautiful I would like there to be more.

Q. Would you like to work more often in the gardens not just on Fridays?

A. I think it is unfortunate that I only come on Fridays, so yes I would like to work in the gardens more often.

Q. Do you think working in the gardens is a hard job?

A. I think it is a hard job to work in the gardens by myself. So I'm grateful for all the children who help during lunch.

Q. Do you like the garden the way it is? why/ why not

A. Yes, I like the gardens the way it is,. but I would like to make more gardens.

Everybody at our school loves our gardens and without them our school would mostly be dirt. This is a story about how our gardens evolved. A long time ago we had hardly any gardens - everything was just dirt and it was a disaster. Every time it rained the mud would go everywhere and all the children that attend the school at that time got all muddy and dirty. The principal Mrs. Doyle got extremely sick and tired of all the children coming to the office asking for a new uniform. So our principal decided to buy some plants for the school to hold the soil and from then on it made life easier and less muddy for kids.
