Interview with Mr Gore
Earlier this week we interviewed Mrs Gore, our librarian here at PHPS. He tells us about his job here and his responsibilities as a librarian. We hope you enjoy it.
Q. Mr Gore, could you tell us how many books are in the library here?
A. There are approximately 8500 books in the PHPS library, which is a small percentage of something like the Wollongong City Library.
Q. Which company supplies this school with a network?
A. A local company called Brimar Electronics.
Q. Who supplies us with the Internet?
A. The NSW Department of Education and Training.
Q. What is the average price of a book?
A. About $10.50
Q. If there is one thing in the library you would change, what would it be?
A. I would make it bigger as we are rapidly running out of space.
Q. What is your daily schedule?
A Well I come to school at about eight or eight-thirty and check e-mail, start up the network and
mend any broken books. Then before nine I borrow/find books that teachers want and get ready for my first class of the day. Then the first class comes until five to twelve. At lunchtime I usually
have lunch in the Library as I work, because I have to get ready for the second class and supervise the Library during the second half of lunch. After lunch the second class comes till nearly home time.
Then I do anything that hasn't been done till about four or four-thirty and then leave. At night I usually mark work, prepare lessons, search the net for resources for classwork or update the
school's website. That's my (work)day.
Layout
The library is situated near the play ground and lunch area. This means it's too the eastern edge of
the school. Inside the library the Junior Fiction and Fiction is to the south side of the library, Non Fiction to the west and Reference the north near Mr. Gore's office and storeroom. Also the library is nineteen
metres long and eight metres wide. There is one T.V, two printers, seventeen computers and one zip drive. The library also has two LG systems and it also has lots
of pictures and posters surrounding the walls. There are also large 50 cm books used for the younger classes in the school. The library also has lots of novels for the
older range of the school and lots of picture books in the Junior Fiction for the younger range of the school.
