Lockhart Buddies travelling away to other schools on behalf of children; "Connections" where children who are away at Boarding school can communciate with people in the community, Virtual Wanderings where children investigate local issues for themselves or on behalf of other students and Galleries, where children practice writing and reading a technology-based text. The descriptions below summarise the activities. More detail on each activity type is available in this "Information for Teachers" section.
Lockhart Buddies Project
Lockhart Buddy Missions
Missions describe the curriculum outcomes that will become the backbone of an adventure by Lockhart Buddies.
Lockhart Buddies
Lockhart Buddies are hand puppets and stuffed toys who travel from the students at Lockhart State School to visit Lockhart students who are boarding in urban schools and centres. These buddies learn about the life in boarding schools, how to be a learner in urban schools and help Lockhart children gather information for projects and activities they are completing back in Lockhart River.
Lockhart Buddy Adventures
A buddy heads out on an adventure with a mission. While out on an adventure, each buddy stays in contact with students using the web-based diary and also complete a paper-based diary they keep in the knapsack.
Connections
As this project develops, we will use the family connections centre to tell the story of events being hosted and to organise proejcts with partner schools.
Galleries
This project helps Lockhart students develop and read an annotated gallery of images as a basis for literacy and other "rich task" activities. Many students across the Cairns, Cape and Gulf areas are developing text for the Lockhart students to read. Boarding schools where Lockhart students are also attending, are supporting this project.
Virtual Wanderings
This project is still being developed and this section will soon provide access for Lockhart teachers to add curriculum plans, students data and results of Virtual Field trip projects. Lockhart teachers will use the VFT site from oz-TeacherNet.
