Using Stamps

Software: Kid Pix The stamp tool is an easy and colorful way to introduce the mouse and the keyboard to children in Kindergarten. Demonstrate clicking the mouse button (one click only) to select a tool or option as well as stamping a picture. Show the class how to hold down keys to change the size of stamps. Hint: It is easier for children in Kindergarten to locate special keys if the keys are labeled. A colored spot (see your Librarian) can be placed on the Shift key and half a coloured spot on the Option key (don't cover the writing on the keys) to enable them to enlarge stamps. Hold the key with half a spot (Option) to make a stamp larger, hold the key with the whole spot (Shift) for larger stamps or hold them both down for huge stamps. Vocabulary could include big, bigger and biggest or large, larger and largest. Open Kid Pix Select the stamp tool. Find pictures that are red, make them bigger (shift) and stamp 1 of each picture. Use the arrows on the end of the stamps to see more pictures.   Print work and use for display or to make a colour book.
