On Wednesday, 25 May, 2001, students in Year 5g at Rochedale State School were filmed by Brisbane Extra, a local current affairs TV show that is shown on weeknights at 5.30pm on Channel 9.

Our children take part in First Aid lessons with Wayne Larsen from QTQ Training during the year and one of those lessons is on using the Expired Air Resuscitation method. This lesson was the one filmed by Brisbane Extra.

Wayne brought 4 mannequins along. Then he demonstrated the EAR method.
All the kids were keen to be on TV. Unfortunately we had to decide on just 4.
By a very democratic process, these were the lucky 4. First the plastic bag was inserted into the mannequin.
A very tricky process. Then the head is lifted back to open the airways.
The mouth then covers the patient's mouth. A good example of the pistol grip on the chin.
Soon the volunteers were ready for the cameras. Another Wayne on the cameras from Ch 9.
Wayne got some good shots of the kids. Nice view.
Ready for some closeups. Children under 12 aren't allowed to be taught CPR.
But learning how to do EAR could save a life. Wayne demonstrates one last time.
The mannequins provide a nice backdrop. Sarah interviews Wayne for the story.
The story went to air at 5.30pm on Friday, 25 May. Thanks for allowing us to take part in it!!
