Bookweek 1997 at

Rosevale State School

Bookweek is an annual celebration at Rosevale State School.  This year, we celebrated Bookweek in the following ways.

Day of Bookweek Activities
FRIDAY AUGUST 15th We spent some extra time on our Bookweek competition entries.  At our school ,we had an activity booklet to complete.  The neatest and most accurate booklets won the prizes.  There were great prizes this year, including a Bookweek t-shirt, a tape of the theme song, a camera kaleidoscope, pencils, rulers, artpads, and lots more.
MONDAY AUGUST 18th We especially focussed on the book, "Grandpa's Stories", as we found out more about the history of our area.
TUESDAY AUGUST 19th Some of our children attended an enrichment day about literature.   It involved looking at lots of books and sharing ideas with children from other schools.
WEDNESDAY AUGUST 20th  THEME DAY - This was our biggest event.  We began the morning with a Fancy Dress Parade where students, parents and teachers came dressed as a favourite book character.  We then had the judging of our competitions and a music lesson on the theme of a Kaleidoscope.

Following this, we completed six rotational activities about some of the shortlisted books.  These activities included art, cooking, writing, gardening and lots more.

At the end of the day, we decided whether we agree with the judges on which of the books were the best.

THURSDAY AUGUST 21st We invited our parents to come up and purchase some books from our BookFair which was happening for a fortnight.
FRIDAY AUGUST 22nd We began our annual book reading incentive scheme on the Friday.  We have to read as many books as we can, and we are awarded points depending on the type of book we choose.  We save up the points until we have enough to choose from the prize tubs.  Some of the prizes are great.
