Auto Body Repair

Attendance: Part Time (day), block release for 3 years (Total: 864 hours)

Qualification: Certificate Level 3

Description: This course is for Panelbeating/Autobody Repair apprentices or people who have entered into a relevant contract of training. You will learn how to weld light gauge motor vehicle body panels and underframe structures. You will also learn to repair minor and major accidents and corrosion damage, measure, realign and repair upper body and underframe structures. Other skills you will learn include the repair of motor vehicle plastic components.

To complete the course you must also satisfy a period of relevant employment.

Requirements: There are no formal educational requirements to enter this course, however you must be a panelbeating or auto body repair apperntice, or have entered into an appropriate contract of training, or have completed an appropriate Certificate of Occupational studies course. Entry can also be gained if you have a Motor Vehicle Repair Industry Council Trademans (or provisional) certificate in panel beating, and have worked in the Auto Refinishing Industry.

Career opportunities: When you have successfully completed this course and your training period you will be able to apply for a Panelbeating Tradesman's Certificate and work as Panelbeater/Autobody Repairer.

Vehicle Body Building

Attendance: Block Release for 3 years (Total: 864 hours)

Qualification: Certificate Lavel 3

Description: This course is for vehicle body building apperntices or people who have entered into a relevant contract of training. This course teaches you to build, repair or modify all types of commercial and industrial vehicle bodies, cabs and chassis to comply with all statutory regulations. You will also learn to work with or without the aid of engineering drawings.

Career Opportunities: When you have finished the course and the subsequent on-the-job training you will be able to apply for membership of the Institute of Automotive and Mechanical Engineers (IAME).

Requirements: There are no formal entry requirements, but selection procedures apply

Vehicle Panel Forming Hand Skills

Attendance: Part Time (evening): 4 hours per week for 1 year

Qualification: Statement of Attainment

Description: This course is for people who work in the motor industry. It teaches you to carry out minor panel repairs to vehicles and hand-form metals using panelbeating hand tools. You also learn some basic skills in vehicle restoration.

Entry requirements: You must have done either Vehicle Painting - Trade Certificate, Vehicle Body Building - Trade Certificate, Panelbeating - Trade Certificate, Automotive Light Vehicles - Trade Certificate or Automotive Heavy Vehicles - Trade Certificate.

You can also do the course if you hold a tradesperson's certificate in panelbeating, vehicle painting, vehicle body building or automotive mechanics or have a contract of work in these trades.

Vehicle Panel Repair Hand Skills

Attendance: Part Time (evening): 4 hours per week for 1 year

Qualification: Statement of Attainment

Description: This course is for people who work in the motor industry. It teaches you to repair badly damaged and corroded vehicle panels using panelbeating hand tools. You also learn about vehicle restoration.

Entry requirements: You must have done Panelbeating - Trade Certificate or Panel Forming Skills Statement of Attainment or equivalent.

Vehicle Underframe and Body Alignment

Attndance: 36 Hours

Qualification: Statement of attainment

Decription: This course teaches skills in vehicle underframe measuring and body alignment for people employed in the motor repair industry. It introduces you to four systems of measuring alignment and helps you to develop skills in using one system.

Entry Requirements: You must have done the panelbeating or automotive mechanic's trade or post-trade course or equivalent. You can also do the course if you have trade qualifications in the panelbeating, vehicle painting, vehicle building or automotive mechanics trade.

Vehicle Workshop Management

Attendance: 48 Hours

Qualification: Statement of attainment

Description: This course is for people who work in the vehicle body repair and refinishing industry who want to learn how to set up a business. It teaches you about the regulations which affect the licensing requirements of the industry. You can also learn about basic laws and business practices and charges in the industry.

Entry requirements: You must have done either Panelbeating - Trade Certificate, Vehicle Painting -Trade Certificate or Vehicle Body Building - Trade Certificate. You can also do the course if you hold a tradesperson's certificate in the panelbeating, vehicle painting or vehicle body building trades.
