"Aboriginal Studies Across the Curriculum" focuses on the following aspects of Aboriginal life before and after European settlement.
(a) the harmony that exists across all aspects of traditional Aboriginal life;
(b) the underlying values that gave direction to Aboriginal society (both traditional and contemporary);
(c) the richness and complexity of traditional society;
(d) the history of Australia from an Aboriginal viewpoint; and
(e) the promotion of reconciliation between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people within contemporary Australian society.
By taking this approach, it is envisaged that students will be led to add another dimension to their current world view (mind set). As a result, they will be more capable of examining beliefs, feelings, values and actions in a way that will give students an enriched appreciation of Australia's heritage.
The format chosen for "Aboriginal Studies Across the Curriculum" builds upon (and is an extension of) the Social Studies planning material provided for Catholic Primary Schools by the Western Australian Catholic Education Off ice (1992)
