AUSSIE ARCHAEOLOGY
PEOPLE OF THE DREAMTIME
Who were these Aboriginal people who were found living in the whole of Australia when the English settlers arrived on the East Coast? Where had they come from and how long had they been living here? These three questions had puzzled anthropologists and archaeologists all over the world.
The three questions have still not been answered, although many clues have come to light in the ever-increasing research carried out during the last 50 years by archaeologists.
Evidence such as the age of charcoal that Archaeologists have found from fires show that Aboriginals have been in Australia from 30,000 B.C. or longer.

The last ice age was the time of 30,000 B.C. and that means that the water level was extremely low which meant that islands became larger. Because of the islands becoming larger that gave a path for the Aboriginals. (The Aboriginals supposedly came from south east Asia.)

Archaeologists have found things that show about the past. Some evidence such as shell middens collected on the coast and river beds by women, as well as burial sights where bones don't usually survive very well in Australia. Tools such as split axes, scrapers and other tools. Languages and relationships have helped Archaeologists with the history of Aboriginals.
Rock shelters have been found with evidence of Aboriginals such as art, food and stone flakes.
