Blacksmiths

Blacksmiths were good craftsmen. They made shoes and horse shoes. They used charcoal or coke as fuel. It was stirred up by great heat blasts of air. They made axes, bows, chains, harrows.

Coopers

The cooper makes barrels. The cooper's barrels are used for gunpowder ,wine, apples, rum and fish. The barrels are made of oak. The barrels were heavy so the Clydesdale horses had to pull carts full of barrels

Whalers

In 1840, whaling became part of the trade in Australia. It was found that whales were plentiful off the coast. They had like harpoons and had little boat thay hit the whale with the harpoon. The whale would pull the boat a long way. They made oil and perfume.
