Numbats

LOOKS

Numbats have a long bushy tail and six stripes. They are a kind of browny red colour. The numbat nearly big as a rat. People think it is a beautiful coloured creature. It has white stripes. Numbat's ears stick up like cat's ears and they look like foxes. They are smaller than a rat. Although the numbats are small , about 2cm from the nose to tip of tail, many people believe it's the most beautifully coloured of all our marsupials.

FOOD

It's long sticky tongue is used to collect the termites. They find termites inside rotten logs they dig up.

HABITAT

Numbats live in shallow burrows and logs in the forests of western Australia.

This used to be the numbat's range but now they are only found in a tiny area in Western Australia.

Why are they endangered?

Numbats are endangered because their habitat is being destroyed for farms and homes. Numbats are also being destroyed by their main predators, feral cats and dogs.
