Pandas

A panda is a mammal. There are two kinds of pandas that are very different. The giant panda looks like a bear. The red panda is much smaller and is related to the raccoon.
Looks
A female panda to 1 0r 2 cubs a year. The cubs are white when they are born and start to get black marks at about one month.
The giant panda has a white chubby body with black legs and a broad band of black around its neck.
The giant pandas usually live alone in the forests of China. The shelter in rock crevices, caves and burrows.
Food and water
The Giant panda eats young green bamboo shoots. The panda drinks water from rivers, dams and creeks.
The Chinese people have been trying to save the panda for many years. They have been trying to keep growing bamboo. There are only about 700 pandas left on the earth today. Pandas are found in the mountain forests of China. Parts of these forests have been made into national parks to save the pandas. In the past, large areas of these forests have been cleared. If you ever see a panda in danger, don't touch it but go to the closest telephone and ring the wildlife park.
