BOOK LAUNCH - YANDINA 125 YEARS

On August 24, 1996 Yandina celebrated its 125 birthday. It was an exciting day and children from Yandina State School entered colouring in contests, wrote essays and made collages about what the local mountain, Mount Ninderry had seen since the Aboriginal Dreamtime, and they sang some songs at the launch of the book , Yandina 125 years. This book was written by some of the local historians including Mrs Audienne Blyth, Mr Fred Fink, Mrs Berenis Alcorn, Mrs Joan Hogarth, Mrs Barbara Want and Mrs Noelene Hughes. One of the songs was a special celebration song written for the occasion by Ms. Belinda Hentschell, music teacher at the school. Here are some of the accounts of the day seen through the eyes of the Yandina State School Children.

Lacey Tessmann and Joel Couacaud thank Mrs Blyth for all the work she did to get the book launched. If it had not been for Mrs Blyth there would have not been an update to the Centenary Book written in 1971.

On Saturday the 24 of August our class 5H sang a song called " Come on lets celebrate'' and Mr Hartshorn our counciller introduced our friends and relatives who have noticed the changes over the past few years Click here to see a movie of our performance (638 K) After we sang our song Mrs Gregory launched the Yandina 125 th Birthday Book . Mrs Blyth made a speech and was presented with a bunch of flowers .Miss Simpson made a speech, and talked about her life at Yandina State School and Mr. Hartshorn was one who was
representing everyone and it was very crowed . There were a lot of stalls there and i went on the giant slide and the fun house and they were great .

When I got to the fair Iwent straight to the School of Arts. I had to wait there a while because
everyone wasn't there yet. At five to one o'clock we got on to the stage and sat down. After Mr.
Hartshorn said a little speech he said that we were from Yandina State School choir. After that we got up and started to sing,'' River of Dreams'' and '' Come on lets Celebrate.'' We sang 5 times.
After a long speech from Mr. Hartshorn Acacia and Matt Hill gave Mrs. Gregory a gift and gave
a speech. After that Joel and Lacey gave Mrs. Blyth a bunch of flowers and gave a speech. After
that we walked down to the stage down in the middle of Steven St.There we sang ,'' Come on lets
Celebrate,'' and ,'' I feel it in my fingers.'' After we sang that I went down the Giant Slide. The street
was crowded with heaps of people and a lot of stalls. The Town Crier was helping people across
the street. It was very hard to get down the street because everyone was in the way. People were
buying things we didn't buy anything and then we went home. `
