Yandina School

YANDINA SCHOOL

Yandina Provisional School became a State School in 1902. Mr J Sommerville was appointed head teacher to the school and he requested the Department to send a fullsized flag, the Union Jack, so that it could be unfurled on the occasion of the school opening April 25, 1902. This day was to be a holiday to celebrate.

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL - MR T. KALKMAN
ABOUT OUR SCHOOL - Our aim is to prepare our children to be contributing members of our community through a combination of effective teaching practices and parent involvement whilst recognising the diverse needs of individuals.

GEOGRAPHY -Our school is situated 7 kms north of Nambour in a pleasant rural setting. It is 20 kms west from the beach and the Pacific Ocean and at the foot of the range. Some time next year Yandina will be by-passed so the huge traffic flow will be greatly reduced.

POPULATION - Our school has 360 students in years 1 to 7 with 15 teachers. Another 50 children attend the Pre-school.

CURRICULUM - We have a music and physical education specialist for 2days each week and all children except Year 1 learn Italian as our LOTE language. Students in years 5,6 and 7 can also learn a musical instrument. We have just automated the library and we offer an after school care program. Our sporting teams compete in Netball, Touch Football, Rugby League, Basketball and Soccer and perform creditably in all these sports. Our students enjoy an innovative art program and this year we won the Kawana Challenge. This site aims to make the resources of the Internet available to students to provide information about our school and showcase our students" work. We hope you will find this service interesting and informative.
Please send us a message on our Home Page to let us know what you think.
